My motivation

I grew up in a place and at a time when it was seen as weak to talk about your feelings as a man. I actually still struggle with that thought today but I now know better. I know I need to be open about my thoughts and feelings to preserve my mental health.

In 2013 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after years of struggling with my inner demons. This was terrifying at the time but it was also the greatest thing that could have happened to me in relation to my mental health because now I knew what was wrong so I could finally work to make it better. Luckily I was blessed to be surrounded by some of the greatest human beings on the planet but I was also lucky I had access to the mental health resources I need to get me to where I am today. These resources were available to me immediately and that was when I needed it. I learned to work with my own brain and how to deal with my struggles in a healthy and productive was. It was not easy but it was necessary. It’s been years since I’ve had a major episode now but that’s because I work every day to keep my brain in check.

The professionals and resources I had access to saved my life. My fiancé saved my life. The lads of Bergen Rugbyklubb saved my life.

Most of these didn’t even know they were helping or how much they helped me.

For this I will be forever great full.

Now I want to try to pay it forward and help the next me who needs it.
